Mermaid Tears™
The only FDA-listed eye drop for underwater vision
See clearly underwater without goggles or contacts.
Protect your eyes from salt water irritation.
Wait… What?
Is Mermaid Tears™ for real?
The FDA appears to think so.
Mermaid Tears™ is officially listed with the FDA.
It’s in the NIH drug database, searchable on DailyMed - since May 2023.
Here are the drug label details that apparently passed muster with the FDA.
Why we made Mermaid Tears™
OTC eye drop safety is a problem.
In 2022:
We discovered 3 unapproved biologic eye drops sold in unsafe bottles.
One stopped after FDA action. The other two are still successfully masquerading as OTC eye drops, just like Mermaid Tears™.
In 2023:
The CDC linked a generic OTC eye drop sold on Amazon to 4 deaths and 18 cases of vision loss.
In September, we reported to the FDA >200 OTC eye drops due to potential safety issues.
Some are in unsafe bottles. Most are not listed with the FDA - so no one knows where, let alone how, they are manufactured.
Since 2023:
The FDA has issued Warning Letters to 7 manufacturers and 10 distributors referencing 58 OTC eye drops.
The FDA has issued 6 public warnings about 43 OTC eye drops.
66 OTC eye drops have been recalled.

Is anyone in charge?
The FDA’s “honor system” regulation of over-the-counter eye drops is ineffective in the e-commerce age.
More and more companies are VIOLATING, MANIPULATING or just plain IGNORING the FDA’s laws and regulations for OTC drugs.
